whipped up by wind marred the lines between pavement and
grassy drop-offs, leaving some scared motorists unsure what
to do. Two local software developers had a thought: There should be

DPS adds teachers as
enrollment grows DETROIT - Detroit Public
Schools has updated data regarding class size issues that
have arisen in recent weeks as additional students enroll.
Overall enrollment has risen to exceed budgeted projections
by almost 300 students, and the district responds to
unexpected needs caused by teacher retirements and
resignations. “The good news is that
children are still enrolling,” said Steven Wasko, Assistant
Superintendent for Community Relations and Chief
Communications Officer. “We also know that there are many
classes that have as few as 15 or 17 students. For the
remaining cases exceeding our limits, affecting 22 out of
more than 4,000 classrooms, we are resolving the issues at
this time.” Specifically, the
district's academic leadership had been made aware of 89
requests for additional teachers from principals at 34
schools as of October 19. Forty-four of those teachers were
deployed as of Wednesday. The additional 45
teachers have been recalled, a process that allows the
teacher up to 10 days to report based on the current union
contract. Of those 45, 23 have already reported and the
remaining 22 will return within that 10-day window. In those
22 classrooms spread across eight schools, the district has
deployed substitutes in all cases.

The City's Neighborhoods a
part of Detroit's resurgence Op-Ed
by Luther Keith/Executive Director-ARISE Detroit! DETROIT
- A recent news report in one of our local papers did a
compelling and uplifting story on Detroit, tying the city's
resurgence and improved national image to the success of the
Detroit Lions and Tigers, improvements in the auto industry,
downtown businesses development and other initiatives.
However, it dismissed the city's neighborhoods as problem
plagued, saddled with thousands of abandoned buildings, poor
services and residents who have little hope for making
things better. While some of this is painfully true, there
is more - much more -- to the story.

began to inappropriately touch her. The victim yelled,
telling the witness to run. As the witness ran, the suspect
then fled on foot. The victim ran and caught up to the
witness, both going to the local school to report the
incident.

Unemployed
professional workforce growing desperate DETROIT (Tell Us USA) -
During this time of the year, it gets darker earlier, much
like the prospect of finding gainful employment! This is not
another conversation on the working poor or those who are on
welfare and being threatened of being cut off. This time
it’s about America’s “overachievers”. The individuals with
MBA’s, Doctoral degrees or those who have earned huge
success after years of working in their industry. Today,
some are small business owners, while others are simply
skilled at what they do. In most cases, they have exhausted
their unemployment benefits, spent much of their savings or
buyouts, with not much to hang their hat on, and now
wondering what’s next.

Detroit's Ambassador Bridge
owner ordered to jail
DETROIT
- A judge ordered the 84-year-old owner of Detroit's
Ambassador Bridge to jail Thursday for failing to meet court
orders on a construction project linking the span to
adjacent interstates.
Wayne
County Judge Prentis Edwards said Manuel "Matty" Moroun and
top lieutenant Dan Stamper will stay in jail until they
comply with a 2010 order to get the work going. It's unclear
how long they'll be behind bars after an appeals court hours
later refused to suspend the decision and release them.
"It is
clear that the Detroit International Bridge Co. does not
intend to comply with the court orders unless meaningful
sanctions are imposed," Edwards said.

integrity transcended geography, politics, gender or race. Logan was an

Occupy
Detroit
movement gets extension from City to clear
Grand
Circus
Park DETROIT (Tell Us Det) -
Detroit City Council members today approved a one-week
extension to Occupy Detroit so protesters can clean up their
camp at Grand Circus Park and move it to a warehouse on the
city's southwest side. This move will allow the
Parade Company crews enough time to prepare the area for the
Thanksgiving parade November 24, which will have grandstands
set up at the park location. The Occupy Detroit
movement has made it clear it has no desire to interfere
with the annual holiday event Due to the close
relationship some council members have with major supporters
of the movement, like local trade unions, they would find it
difficult not to offer some sort of concession to the occupy
group. Those very same unions are also major supporters and
campaign contributors to City Council members during
election time as well.

Boxing great Joe Frazier dies after
cancer fight PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Joe
Frazier had to throw his greatest punch to knock down "The
Greatest." A vicious left hook from
Frazier put Muhammad Ali on the canvas in the 15th round in
March 1971 when he became the first man to beat him in the
Fight of the Century at Madison Square Garden. "That was the greatest
thing that ever happened in my life," Frazier said. It was his biggest
night, one that would never come again. The relentless,
undersized heavyweight ruled the division as champion, then
spent a lifetime trying to fight his way out of Ali's
shadow. Frazier, who died Monday
night after a brief battle with liver cancer at the age of
67, will forever be associated with Ali. No one in boxing
would ever dream of anointing Ali as The Greatest unless he,
too, was linked to Smokin' Joe.

Michigan's proposed change in No-Fault
Auto insurance requires close scrutiny Op-Ed by Fred Nader LANSING, MI - The desire
for our Legislature to reduce auto insurance coverage and
regulate medical provider billing rates is based on a flawed

flawed assumptions?

It didn't take long for the people who loved their iPhones,
iPods, iPads and Macs to begin gathering to pay their

SUMMER PLAYTIME IS OVER: FOR KIDS AND
ADULTS DETROIT (Tell Us Det) -
For millions of young people across the country, it is that
time again. The carefree days of summer have faded, replaced
with the sun going down earlier and a return to structure,
lesson plans and forward thinking. The reality that playtime
is over has hit households and communities like a bolt of
lightning. Are they prepared and ready for a new term?
