sees
some of
the best
talent
in the
Major

every
spring.
A
multi-million

another

Still
Searching
for Win
No. 1
The
Tigers
open a
stretch
of
home-heavy
baseball
today,
hosting
the
Phillies
at Joker
Marchant
Stadium
to kick
off a
run in
which
six of
their
next
seven
Florida
games
will be
played
right
here in
Lakeland
through
March 7.
The only
road
detour
in that
span
comes
tomorrow
in Port
Charlotte
against
the
Rays.
The home
comforts
can't
fully
mask the
elephant
in the
room,
though —
Detroit
is still
looking
for its
first
win of
the
spring
after
dropping
a 6-5
decision
in
Baltimore
yesterday.
The
clock is
ticking
if the
Tigers
want to
stay in
the hunt
for the
coveted
Rokus
Award.
On a
lighter
note,
the
Tigers
have
been
drawing
solid
crowds
on the
road:
5,757 in
Clearwater
on
Wednesday
and
5,959 in
Sarasota
on
Thursday.
Expect
something
in that
ballpark
today in
Lakeland.
Flaherty
Back on
the
Mound
Jack
Flaherty
takes
the ball
for his
second
spring
outing
after a
mixed
debut —
one
strikeout
and a
solo
homer
surrendered
in a
single
inning
against
Baltimore
on
Sunday.
Now in
his
third
year in
the
Tigers
organization,
Flaherty's
path has
been
anything
but
ordinary:
he
signed
with
Detroit
before
the 2024
season,
was
traded
to the
Dodgers
midseason,
won a
World
Series
ring,
and then
returned
to the
Motor
City on
a new
free-agent
deal
ahead of
last
year.
Camp by
the
Numbers
Detroit
currently
has 67
players
in major
league
camp —
27 of
them
non-roster
invitees
and two
on the
60-day
IL.
Among
the 65
active
players,
37 are
pitchers,
six are
catchers,
11 are
infielders,
and 11
are
outfielders.

Enters
Year Six
A.J.
Hinch
begins
his
sixth
season
managing
the
Tigers,
making
him the
longest-tenured
skipper
in
Detroit
since
Hall of
Famer
Jim
Leyland's
eight-year
tenure
from
2006 to
2013.
His 394
wins
with the
club
place
him
eighth
on the
all-time
list in
franchise
history.
Coming
Off a
Playoff
Run
The
Tigers
arrive
in
Lakeland
with
some
momentum
at their
backs.
Last
season
they
returned
to the
playoffs
as a
Wild
Card
team for
the
second
straight
year,
knocking
off
Cleveland
in the
Wild
Card
round
before
bowing
out in a
gut-wrenching
15-inning
Game 5
loss to
Seattle.
Detroit
is one
of just
four
franchises
— along
with the
Yankees,
Phillies,
and
Dodgers
— to
reach
the
Division
Series
in each
of the
past two
seasons.
