DETROIT
- The
Pistons
opened
their
second-round
series
with a
111-101
win over
the
Cavaliers
on
Monday
night at
Little
Caesars
Arena,
snapping
a
12-game
playoff
losing
streak
against
Cleveland
and
taking a
1-0 lead
in the
series.
Cade
Cunningham
and
Donovan
Mitchell
each
scored
23
points,
but
Detroit’s
edge in
turnovers,
rebounding
and
transition
scoring
proved
decisive.
Detroit
pulled
away in
the
fourth
quarter
after
the game
was tied
at 93,
going on
a 12-3
run to
take
control
with
2:04
left.
The
Pistons
finished
with 31
points
off 20
Cavaliers
turnovers,
while
Cleveland
managed
16
points
off
Detroit’s
12
giveaways.
Cleveland
shot
slightly
better
from the
field
and the
free-throw
line,
but
Detroit
made up
the
difference
with
fastbreak
scoring
and work
on the
glass.
Cunningham
led the
Pistons
with 23
points,
seven
assists,
three
rebounds
and two
steals.
Jalen
Duren
added 15
points
and 15
rebounds
for a
second
straight
playoff
double-double,
while
Duncan
Robinson
scored
19
points
and hit
five
3-pointers.
Daniss
Jenkins
gave
Detroit
a spark
off the
bench
with 12
points
and a
game-high
four
steals,
and
Ausar
Thompson
added 11
points,
eight
rebounds
and five
assists.
Mitchell
led
Cleveland
with 23
points,
while
James
Harden
finished
with 22
points,
eight
rebounds
and
seven
assists.
Max
Strus
added 19
points
off the
bench,
including
four
3-pointers.
Even
with
those
efforts,
the
Cavaliers
could
not
recover
from the
turnovers
and
Detroit’s
late
surge.
