tournament
field
now
boasts
three of
the four
reigning
major
championship
winners
(2021
PGA
Championship
winner
Phil
Mickelson,
2021
Masters
winner
Matsuyama
and 2020
U.S.
Open
winner
Bryson
DeChambeau).
Matsuyama
joins a
field
that
currently
includes
seven
major
championship
winners
accounting
for 13
major
titles,
as well
as nine
players
among
the top
50 in
the
Official
World
Golf
Ranking
and
eight
players
within
the top
30 in
the PGA
TOUR’s
2020-21
FedExCup
points
standings.
The
tournament’s
156-player
field
will be
confirmed
as final
on
Friday,
June 25.

Matsuyama’s
one-stroke
victory
in the
2021
Masters
was not
only his
first
major
championship
victory,
but the
first
major
win for
any male
Japanese
player
in golf
history.
The
29-year-old
is a
six-time
winner
on the
PGA
TOUR,
owns
eight
international
victories
and has
played
on the
International
team in
the last
four
Presidents
Cups. In
the four
majors
played
so far
during
the
2020-21
season
(with
two
delayed
from
last
season
due to
Covid-19),
he has
finished
tied for
23rd or
better.
He will
play in
the
Rocket
Mortgage
Classic
for the
third
straight
year,
having
finished
T13 in
2019 and
T21 last
year.
The
Rocket
Mortgage
Classic
is the
only PGA
TOUR
event
ever
held in
the city
of
Detroit
and
returns
to
Detroit
Golf
Club
June
28-July
