We all expected certain players to go in the top 10, namely USC's Caleb Williams, LSU's Jayden Daniels, North Carolina's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy. It was far more stunning to see Washington's Michael Penix Jr. land in Atlanta with the eighth overall pick and Oregon's Bo Nix go to Denver at No. 12.

DETROIT - The 2024 NFL Draft broke records as the first 14 players selected were all on the offensive side of the ball, surpassing the previous record set in 2021 of seven consecutive offensive players chosen to start an NFL Draft. In addition, 23 offensive players were chosen in the first round, breaking the previous record of 19 (set in 1968, 2004 and 2009) for the most offensive players ever selected in the first round of an NFL Draft.

Quarterbacks dominated the top picks, with Caleb Williams (No. 1 overall, Chicago), Jayden Daniels (No. 2, Washington) and Drake Maye (No. 3, New England) being chosen with the first three picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, while Michael Penix Jr. (No. 8, Atlanta), J.J. McCarthy (No. 10, Minnesota) and Bo Nix (No. 12, Denver) were all selected in the first round of the same draft. Six quarterbacks were chosen in the first round, tying the 1983 NFL Draft for the most quarterbacks ever selected in the first round of an NFL Draft.

Wide receivers were also highly sought after in the 2024 NFL Draft, with seven wide receivers being chosen in the first round, tying the record set in the 2004 NFL Draft for the most wide receivers ever taken in the first round. LSU's Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. were both selected in the first round, marking the eighth pair of wide receiver college teammates to be selected in the first round of an NFL Draft.

Nine offensive linemen were selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, with eight tackles selected, tying the record set in the 2008 NFL Draft for the most tackles taken in the first round of any draft.

Finally, the 2024 NFL Draft also made history for the tenth and eleventh time since 1967 by having both a father and son selected in the first round of the draft. Arizona selected wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., whose father, Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr., was selected in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. With the following selection, the Los Angeles Chargers chose tackle Joe Alt, whose father, John Alt, was a first-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1984 NFL Draft.
