SAN ANTONIO - The New York Knicks are NBA champions for the first time in 53 years after beating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday night, clinching the series 4-1 and ending the franchise's longest title drought since 1973. Jalen Brunson delivered an epic 45-point performance that anchored every critical phase of the game, as New York navigated a gritty, defensive battle and held off a late Spurs rally to secure the championship on San Antonio's home floor. Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs' star, finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds but was unable to generate enough offense around him to force a Game 6, and the Spurs' shooting turnovers in the final minutes ultimately cost them any chance of extending the series.

New York had already shown its resilience earlier in the series by coming back from a 29-point deficit in Game 4 to stun the Spurs, then closing out the championship in Game 5 with a disciplined, clutch performance that featured tough defense, timely scoring runs, and Brunson's relentless scoring in the paint and from mid-range. The final 94-90 score reflected a game that was tight throughout, with both teams trading leads and the Spurs pushing hard down the stretch, but the Knicks' ability to make key stops and score when it mattered most separated them in the end. The title marks a historic moment for New York basketball, bringing the championship back to the city after a 53-year wait and capping a Finals in which the Knicks proved they could withstand pressure, overcome adversity, and finish strong against one of the league's most talented young cores led by Wembanyama.
