DETROIT,
August
19, 2025
– In an
unprecedented
show of
bipartisan
support,
more
than 200
current
and
former
elected
officials
across
Michigan
have
endorsed
Mike
Duggan's
independent
bid for
governor,
marking
the
largest
endorsement
wave for
any 2026
gubernatorial
candidate.
The
historic
coalition
includes
over 50
mayors,
township
supervisors,
and
village
presidents;
more
than 100
city
council
members
and
trustees;
25+
school
board
members;
and
former
congressmen,
city
treasurers,
and
university
regents.
Spanning
from
Pointe
Aux
Barques
to
Milan,
Flint to
Grand
Haven,
these
Republican,
Democratic,
and
Independent
leaders
represent
the
breadth
of
Michigan's
diverse
communities.
Breaking
Through
Partisan
Gridlock
"The
people
of
Michigan
are
tired of
the
dysfunction
in
Lansing,"
said
Michael
Taylor,
Mayor of
Sterling
Heights.
"They
want
someone
who can
bring
real
solutions,
not more
partisan
gridlock.
That's
why I'm
endorsing
Mike
Duggan
as the
state's
first
Independent
governor.
His
track
record
speaks
for
itself."
The
endorsement
surge
reflects
growing
frustration
with
traditional
party
politics
and
enthusiasm
for
Duggan's
results-driven
approach.
Officials
cite his
successful
transformation
of
Detroit
as
evidence
of his
ability
to
transcend
political
divisions
and
deliver
tangible
improvements.
"The
political
games
being
played
in our
state
are
delaying
essential
work
like
passing
a school
budget,
and
students
across
Michigan
are the
ones who
suffer,"
said
Porsche
Laster,
President
of the
Romulus
School
Board.
"Mike
Duggan
has
already
proven
what
real
results
look
like
through
his work
in
Detroit.
He's a
leader
who
knows
how to
bring
people
together,
and when
leaders
collaborate,
our
children
and
communities
win."
Momentum
Building
Across
Michigan
This
endorsement
milestone
adds to
Duggan's
already
impressive
coalition
of
support:
Labor
backing:
Eight
unions
representing
more
than
25,000
members
Faith
community:
Over 150
pastors
and
religious
leaders
Business
support:
Detroit
Regional
Chamber,
Michigan's
largest
chamber
of
commerce
Fundraising
strength:
Record-breaking
$3.2
million
raised
in six
months,
with 93%
from
Michigan
donors
Polling
position:
Drawing
equal
support
from
Republicans
and
Democrats
"It's
time for
Michigan
to have
leaders
who work
for
everyone,
not just
their
party's
agenda,"
said
Mark
Northrup,
Mayor of
Hudsonville.
"The
consequences
of
partisan
gridlock
are all
around
us—underperforming
schools,
crumbling
roads, a
stalled
economy,
and
wasted
taxpayer
dollars.
We can
and must
do
better,
and I
believe
Mike
Duggan
is the
leader
who will
deliver
that for
Michigan."
A
Vision
for All
Michigan
The
breadth
of
support—coming
more
than a
year
before
the
election—signals
strong
appetite
for
Duggan's
message
of
pragmatic
governance
over
partisan
politics.
His
independent
campaign
has
struck a
chord
with
voters
across
traditional
party
lines
who are
demanding
accountability
and
results.
"Michiganders
want a
governor
whose
first
priority
isn't
protecting
their
party's
majority,"
Duggan
said.
"I'm
running
as an
Independent
because
the only
way we
can fix
our
broken
education
system
and
create
the kind
of
Michigan
where
all
communities
can
thrive
is by
ending
the
toxic
partisanship
plaguing
Lansing.
I'm
honored
by this
incredible
wave of
endorsements
and
excited
by the
momentum
our
campaign
is
building."
