Bondi
has
faced
growing
criticism
from
Democrats
and some
Republicans
over the
DOJ’s
handling
of
millions
of files
related
to
Epstein,
who died
by
suicide
in jail
in 2019
while
awaiting
trial on
federal
sex
trafficking
charges.

Walk Out
of
Epstein

Call It
a "Fake
Hearing"

Attorney
General
Pam
Bondi's
ongoing
standoff
with
Congress
over the
Jeffrey
Epstein
files
reached
a new
flashpoint
Wednesday
night on
Capitol
Hill.
A group
of House
Democrats
walked
out of a
closed-door
briefing
with
Bondi on
the
Epstein
probe
less
than an
hour
after it
began.
The
session
came
just one
day
after
House
Oversight
Committee
Chair
James
Comer
subpoenaed
Bondi to
testify
under
oath in
April.
The
committee's
top
Democrat,
Rep.
Robert
Garcia
of
California,
called
the
session
a "fake
hearing,"
noting
that
Bondi
was not
under
oath and
did not
give an
opening
statement.
"It's
outrageous,
it's
infuriating
and it
continues
this
White
House
coverup
of the
Epstein
files,"
Garcia
said.
Democrats
are now
raising
the
specter
of
impeachment.
Rep.
Summer
Lee of
Pennsylvania
said she
introduced
impeachment
articles
against
Bondi,
and
several
colleagues
indicated
they are
co-sponsors,
making
Bondi
the top
Democratic
target
in
Congress
following
the
removal
of
Homeland
Security
Secretary
Kristi
Noem.
The
hearing
also
turned
rancorous
between
members.
When
Rep. Lee
pressed
Committee
Chair
Comer on
whether
he would
enforce
the
subpoena,
a verbal
altercation
ensued.
Comer
confirmed
using
the word
"bitching"
toward
Democrats,
saying
they
were
"wasting
everyone's
time."
When
asked
directly
whether
she will
comply
with the
subpoena,
Bondi
said she
"will
follow
the law"
— a
response
Democrats
called
wholly
inadequate.
Bondi
herself
pushed
back on
criticism
of DOJ's
transparency,
claiming
the
documents
already
released
stack as
tall as
the
Eiffel
Tower.
Bondi's
formal
sworn
deposition
before
the
committee
is
scheduled
for
April
14.
