“No
Kings”
protests
are set
to take
place
Saturday
across
the
United
States,
with
organizers
expecting
more
than
3,000
local
demonstrations
and
turnout
that
could
reach
millions
nationwide.
The
movement,
now in
its
third
major
national
day of
action,
targets
President
Donald
Trump’s
administration
over
issues
like
masked
secret
police
in
communities,
an
illegal
war
abroad,
attacks
on free
speech
and
civil
rights,
voter
suppression,
and
rising
family
costs
from
billionaire-favored
policies.
Organizers
emphasize
nonviolent,
people-powered
resistance
rooted
in
America's
democratic
history,
saying
power
belongs
to the
people,
not
tyrants.
Events
kick off
at
various
times,
typically
from
late
morning
through
afternoon,
with
many
featuring
local
marches
converging
on main
rally
sites.
In the
Twin
Cities
flagship
event,
regional
marches
begin at
noon
from
spots
like
Harriet
Island
Regional
Park and
Saint
Paul
College,
leading
to a 2
p.m.
rally at
the
Minnesota
State
Capitol;
high-profile
speakers
include
Sen.
Bernie
Sanders,
Bruce
Springsteen,
Jane
Fonda,
Joan
Baez,
Minnesota
AG Keith
Ellison,
and Lt.
Gov.
Peggy
Flanagan.
Southern
California
sees
dozens
of
rallies,
such as
Los
Angeles
City
Hall/Grand
Park
from
2-5:30
p.m.,
Anaheim's
La Palma
Park 2-5
p.m.,
and San
Diego's
Waterfront
Park
9:30
a.m.-noon.
Michigan
hosts
over 100
protests,
including
multiple
in metro
Detroit
as part
of the
statewide
push
into
every
congressional
district.
Other
states
like
Indiana
(60+
cities),
New
Jersey,
Kentucky,
and
Illinois
have
mapped
events
at city
halls,
parks,
and
plazas,
often
1-3
hours
long
with
community-led
programming.
Full
schedules
and maps
are
available
via the
No Kings
website,
with new
events
added
daily.
Participating
groups
include
Indivisible,
MoveOn,
ACLU,
Human
Rights
Campaign,
SEIU,
and
Democratic
Socialists
of
America,
all
framing
the day
as a
stand
against
authoritarianism,
endless
wars,
and
domestic
repression.
Organizers
provide
safety
trainings
and
de-escalation
guidance
ahead of
the
events.
