DEARBORN - Ford has unveiled the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible, a 795-horsepower, supercharged V8 drop-top that the automaker calls its highest-performance convertible Mustang to date. The vehicle was introduced in connection with the 2026 Woodward Dream Cruise, bringing a new open-air flagship to metro Detroit’s annual celebration of performance cars and automotive culture.

The Dark Horse SC convertible is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 rated at 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque when using premium fuel. Power is routed through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, Ford said.

Ford Racing developed the convertible as a grand-touring counterpart to the Dark Horse SC coupe, which is positioned as the more track-focused model. The automaker said the convertible is its first new high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013.

Starting with the Mustang GT convertible architecture, Ford Racing added a lightweight magnesium tower-to-tower brace intended to strengthen the vehicle’s structure and accommodate the increased output of its supercharged engine.

The convertible also receives a specially tuned next-generation MagneRide suspension, which Ford said is designed to balance cruising comfort with improved stability under hard acceleration.

“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Racing, said in a statement. “It’s just pure fun, fast, freedom.”

Ford said the Dark Horse SC convertible will be offered with styling and trim details including available Precision Purple exterior paint, a unique brake-caliper color, and Black Onyx or Space Gray interior treatments.

Orders for the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible are scheduled to open this fall, with vehicles expected to reach dealerships in spring 2027. Ford has not announced pricing.
