Launches
Amnesty
Program
to Help
Detroiters
Clear
Debts
DETROIT,
MI - The
36th
District
Court
has
introduced
a new
Amnesty
Program
giving
Detroit
residents
a chance
to
settle
outstanding
court
debts
without
the
burden
of extra
fees.
Running
from
March 9
through
April 2,
2026,
the
program
waives
all late
fees,
penalties,
and
warrant
costs
when
participants
pay
their
original
fines
and
costs in
full.
Court
officials
say the
initiative
aims to
ease
financial
hardships
for
residents
and
promote
compliance
with
court
orders.
The
program
applies
to all
adjudicated
cases
with
assessed
fines
and
costs,
except
for
driver’s
license
reinstatement
fees.
Chief
Judge
William
C.
McConico
emphasized
the
program’s
community-oriented
approach.
“This
amnesty
program
provides
individuals
with a
meaningful
opportunity
to
resolve
outstanding
court
debt
without
the
added
burden
of late
fees and
warrant
costs,”
he said.
“Our
goal is
to
remove
financial
barriers
and help
members
of our
community
move
forward.”
The 36th
District
Court
staff
will
assist
participants
throughout
the
process
to
ensure
payments
are
processed
smoothly.

Residents
are
encouraged
to take
advantage
of the
program
before
it
concludes
