36th District Court Launches Amnesty Program to Help Detroiters Clear Debts

DETROIT, MI - The 36th District Court has introduced a new Amnesty Program giving Detroit residents a chance to settle outstanding court debts without the burden of extra fees. Running from March 9 through April 2, 2026, the program waives all late fees, penalties, and warrant costs when participants pay their original fines and costs in full.

Court officials say the initiative aims to ease financial hardships for residents and promote compliance with court orders. The program applies to all adjudicated cases with assessed fines and costs, except for driver’s license reinstatement fees.

Chief Judge William C. McConico emphasized the program’s community-oriented approach. “This amnesty program provides individuals with a meaningful opportunity to resolve outstanding court debt without the added burden of late fees and warrant costs,” he said. “Our goal is to remove financial barriers and help members of our community move forward.”

The 36th District Court staff will assist participants throughout the process to ensure payments are processed smoothly. Detailed information on accepted payment methods is available on the court’s official website: 36thdistrictcourtmi.gov/divisions-departments/traffic/payment-methods.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the program before it concludes on April 2.
