Robert

says
contract
good for
the

many
teachers
disagree
DETROIT
(Tell Us

Today,
over a
thousand
Detroit
Public
School
teachers
gathered
at COBO
Convention
Center
to
discuss
the
latest
contract
offer
from
Detroit
Public
Schools'
Emergency
Financial
Manager
Robert
Bobb and
Detroit
Federation
of
Teachers
President
Keith

Many
teachers
feel
that
some
parts of
the
proposed
agreement
are no
more
than a
loan to
the
district
in the
amount
of
$10-thousand
per
member.
The
alternative
is a
$36-thousand
pay cut.
That's
according
to some

Cornerstone
Charter

roar, at
their
annual
“Be a

fundraiser
In
a city
that has
one of
the
lowest
high
school
graduation
rates in
the
nation,
Detroit’s
Cornerstone
Schools
has
graduated
on
average
95
percent
of its
students.
Even
though
these
numbers
are
remarkable,
the
charter
school
can’t do
it
alone,
which is
why they
teamed
up with
the
Detroit

and
other
corporate
sponsors
for the
annual
tailgate
fundraiser
called
“Be a
Tiger
for
Kids,”
outside
Comerica

DATELINE
NBC RATINGS
CLIMB 63%
ON HEELS
OF
DETROIT
STORY

On
Sunday,
April
18, from
7-8
p.m.,
“Dateline
NBC”, a
show
that
consistently
comes in
third or
fourth
place in
its time
slot,
reported
its top
Sunday
results
in both
18-49
and
total
viewers
since
March 7.
“Dateline”
was up
63
percent
in 18-49
rating
and 45
percent
or 1.7
million
persons
in total
viewers.
This
means
increased
advertising
dollars
for the
network
and
local
affiliate
(WDIV),
at the
expense
of
Detroit
and its
residents.
DETROIT
(Tell Us
Det) -
Since
the
Chris
Hansen
NBC
piece on
Detroit
aired
last
Sunday,
some
residents
have
called
for an
apology
from the
network,
(which
is not
likely
to
happen),
others
make
charges
of
unfair
depictions
of the
Motor
City,
and many
are not
amused
with an
unflattering
view of
the
community
and its
people.
It seems
to be
all
anyone
is
talking
about...
and
little
else.
Karen
Dumas,
Chief
Communications
Officer
for
Mayor
Dave
Bing
released
a
statement
early
last
week,
saying,
"The
story
told was
one-sided,
and
failed
to
accurately
reflect
the
other
side of
the
story.
We are
not
perfect,
nor do
we
desire
to be
portrayed
as such.
But, we
also
find no
value in
being
incorrectly
painted
as a
city
whose
residents
must
resort
to
hunting
raccoons
for
food. It
is this
image
that
contributes
to
fueling
decisions
to not
return,
invest
or
remain
in our
city."
"Rounding
out the
story
would
prove
that
NBC's
interests
and
efforts
were not
to
simply
gain
ratings
at the
expense
of the
city,
its
residents
and
supporters,"
Dumas
wrote.
"You
showed
the
heartbreak
... we'd
like to
see the
hope."
