  Southwest Detroit celebrates the 6th Annual Southwest Hispanic Holiday Fest

DETROIT - The Sixth Annual Southwest Holiday Fest takes place from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 at five ‘Cultural Activity Center’ locations throughout Southwest Detroit: W. Vernor at 21st, W. Vernor at 25th, Bagley at 24th, W. Vernor at Central, and Michigan Avenue at Wesson. In addition to an exciting family-friendly holiday entertainment line-up, the holiday fest features many traditional food and beverage items, vendor tables, giveaways and more.

“Southwest Detroit is excited to once again host the annual Southwest Holiday Fest, offering families a way to celebrate the holiday season with an interactive entertainment lineup and authentic Latin American cuisine,” said Raymond Lozano, Executive Director of the Mexicantown Community Foundation. “We are grateful for the generous support from our sponsors and hope that the community takes advantage of this opportunity to revel in the holiday spirit, while paying tribute to Hispanic heritage.”

Offerings at the different activity centers include “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind”, an interactive series of skits, Hot Cocoa with the Disney movie, “Coco”, Las Posadas - a re-enactment of the journey of Mary and Joseph, a Mole sauce and Tamale tasting and contest, and youth performances from both the Center of Music & Performing Arts-Southwest (COMPÁS) and Western International High School’s Jazz Ensemble.

Sponsors for the Sixth Annual Southwest Holiday Fest include: All Saints Literacy Center, Danto Furniture, Ford Resource Engagement Center at the Mexicantown Mercado, Living Arts, Matrix Theatre Company, Mexicantown Community Development Corporation, Mexicantown-Hubbard Communities Main Street Program, Plaza del Sol Ambassador Community and Performing Arts Center, Prince Valley Market, Repair The World Detroit, Southwest Solutions, West Vernor & Springwells Business Improvement District, Xochi's Gift Shop, and the Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA).

The West Vernor & Springwells Business Improvement District is sponsoring a shuttle that will transport festival-goers from location to location throughout the event.
