- After
much
anticipation,
The
Kanagawa
Jubilee
Choral
of Japan
will
make its
American
debut in
Detroit,
Michigan.
The
Kanagawa
Jubilee
Chorale,
under
the
direction
of two
talented
Detroiters,
Ashton
and
Rivonne
Moore,
who are
dedicated
to
bridging
the gap
between
African-American
and
Japanese
culture
through
choral
music.
Based in
Kanagawa,
Japan,
The
Kanagawa
Jubilee
Chorale
explores
a myriad
of
musical
genres,
which
include
African-American
Spirituals,
Jazz,
Rock &
Roll,
R&B,
Bossa
Nova,
and
Soul.
Kanagawa
is a
coastal
prefecture
just
south of
Tokyo.
“African
American
Gospel
Music
enjoys
worldwide
popularity,
particularly
in
Germany
and
Japan,”
comments
Edith
Clifton,
Hartford
Music
Coordinator.
“Even
the
Royal
Wedding
of Price
Harry
and
Meghan
featured
the
Kingdom
London
Gospel
Choir in
the
ceremonies.”
The
dynamic
husband-wife
directors
of the
Chorale
are both
Cass
Technical
High
School
and
Michigan
State
University
graduates
who now
live,
perform
and
teach in
Japan.
The
Kanagawa
Jubilee
Chorale
has
performed
at
numerous
music
festivals
and
charitable
events.
“The
Kanagawa
Jubilee
Chorale
from
Japan
will
highlight
Detroit
on its
first
concert
tour
outside
of
Japan.
On
Friday,
June 8th
this
chorale
will be
presented
at
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church
at 6 pm
in a
concert
open to
the
public
free of
charge,”
said
Clifton.
“The
Music
Connection
is
perhaps
the
strongest
intercultural
connection
we can
experience.
We
proudly
present
the
Kanagawa
Jubilee
Chorale,
17
Japanese
singers
singing
Gospel
music,
directed
by
Detroit
natives,
Ashton
and
Rivonne
Moore.
We want
to share
this
experience
with the
entire
community
of Metro
Detroit
without
charge.”

the
Detroit
area The
Kanagawa
Jubilee
Chorale’s
Grand
Tour
will
include
several
locations
and
events
open to
the
public.

Grand
Concert
and
Cultural
Tour

historic
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church,
afternoon
“Hour of
Power”
service
from
11:30am
to
12:30pm.
Friday
June 8th
at 6 pm

Kanagawa
Jubilee
Chorale’s
Grand
Concert
featuring
Spirituals,
Jazz,
and more
the
Grand
Concert
at
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church
is sure
to leave
the
audience
filled
with
delight.

They
will
travel
to
Lansing
to join
St.
Stephen’s
Community
Church
Sunday
service.

welcome

Detroit
tour
would be
incomplete
without
the
Chorale
paying a
visit to
the
Charles
H.
Wright
Museum,
and of
course
the
Motown
Museum
to learn
more
about
the
popular
Motown
sound.
