DETROIT - After much anticipation, The Kanagawa Jubilee Choral of Japan will make its American debut in Detroit, Michigan.

The Kanagawa Jubilee Chorale, under the direction of two talented Detroiters, Ashton and Rivonne Moore, who are dedicated to bridging the gap between African-American and Japanese culture through choral music. Based in Kanagawa, Japan, The Kanagawa Jubilee Chorale explores a myriad of musical genres, which include African-American Spirituals, Jazz, Rock & Roll, R&B, Bossa Nova, and Soul. Kanagawa is a coastal prefecture just south of Tokyo.

“African American Gospel Music enjoys worldwide popularity, particularly in Germany and Japan,” comments Edith Clifton, Hartford Music Coordinator. “Even the Royal Wedding of Price Harry and Meghan featured the Kingdom London Gospel Choir in the ceremonies.”

The dynamic husband-wife directors of the Chorale are both Cass Technical High School and Michigan State University graduates who now live, perform and teach in Japan. The Kanagawa Jubilee Chorale has performed at numerous music festivals and charitable events.

“The Kanagawa Jubilee Chorale from Japan will highlight Detroit on its first concert tour outside of Japan. On Friday, June 8th this chorale will be presented at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church at 6 pm in a concert open to the public free of charge,” said Clifton.
“The Music Connection is perhaps the strongest intercultural connection we can experience.

We proudly present the Kanagawa Jubilee Chorale, 17 Japanese singers singing Gospel music, directed by Detroit natives, Ashton and Rivonne Moore. We want to share this experience with the entire community of Metro Detroit without charge.”
