DETROIT
MI (Tell

- The
Rhonda
Walker
Foundation
and the
Somerset
Collection’s
“Give
and Get
Fit”
event
was held
Sunday
July 24
at the
Somerset
Collection.
Over a
hundred
participants
got out
their
walking
shoes
and yoga
mats for
a fun
filled
day of
Health
and
Fitness.
This is
the
first
event of
its kind
to be
open to
the
public,
and
promises
to be
one that
will be
remember
for a
long
time.
The
Foundation,
hopes
that
this
just
might
give
people
the
incentive
needed
to join
a
fitness
class or
stay in
the
fitness
class
you’re
are
already
in.
“Give
and Get
Fit” is
a health
and
wellness
event
that
included
yoga and
Pilates
classes
and a
Function
Show led
by lulu
lemon athletica
ambassadors.
There
was a
free
health
fair,
screening
and
refreshments.
And,
of
course,
the mall
walk
that
also
helped will
keep
participants
energized
for the
rest of
the day.
All this and
an
opportunity
to give
back to
a
wonderful
group of
young
women
that
will
someday
be our
professional
and
community
leaders.
This was a
perfect
way to
start
Sunday
Morning.
It’s all
about
raising
money
for
WDIV-TV4
Rhonda
Walker’s
favorite
charity.

According
to board
members;
Rhonda’s
deep
passion
for
inspiring
children
prompted
her to
establish
the
Rhonda
Walker
Foundation
in 2003
to serve
teen
girls.
In its
8th
year,
the RWF
supports
inner-city
teen
girls
from
throughout
the
Detroit
Public
School
System.
As a
testimony
to her
desire
to help
as many
teen
girls as
she can,
Rhonda
is
hands-on
and
involved
in every
aspect
of the
RWF. She
also
takes a
personal
interest
in each
of the
girls in
the RWF,
whose
mission
is: to
empower
inner-city
teen
girls
towards
becoming
strong,
confident,
successful
and
moral
future
leaders.
The five
year
plan for
the
Girls
into
Women
program
includes
workshops,
seminars,
retreats,
field
trips,
and
camps a
minimum
of twice
each
month.
The core
Girls
into
Women
program
focuses
on
career
and
personal
development
which
addresses
self-esteem,
etiquette,
health,
career,
mental
and
emotional
well-being,
mentoring,
public
speaking,
life
skills
and
more.

Here are
a few
comments
from
young
women
that
have
been RWF
participants:
“The RWF
has made
me more
diligent,
competent,
respectful,
and
strong.
I feel
more
confident
when I
walk
into a
room.”
Says
Olivia
Bishop
“The RWF
has
become a
family
for
which I
am ever
grateful
and has
taught
me
rewarding
skills
that
will
travel
with me
throughout
my
life.”
Brittany
Banks
As I
venture
out of
the
program
and
explore
different
paths of
life, I
will
always
remember
coming
in as a
girl and
exiting
a woman
– a
woman
who has
all the
intentions
of
leaving
a
humongous
mark on
the
world.”
Said
Ravynne
Gilmore
This
year for
the
first
time RWF
launched
a summer
jobs
program
that
allowed
four
high
school
seniors
and
Juniors
to have
a once
in a
lifetime
opportunity
to work
at
Dykema
Gossett
law firm
in
downtown
Detroit.
These
young
women
will
walk
away
from
this
valuable
opportunity
with
firsthand
knowledge
of a
professional
environment
and what
it’s
really
like to
be an
attorney.
This
kind of
hands-on
experience
many
times
leads to
an
important
career
decision
to
practice
law.
Come
join the
RWF’s
mission
of
empowering
inner
city
teen
girls.
