Catherine
Ferguson
Academy
is now
open to
teen
mothers
DETROIT
–
Catherine
Ferguson
Academy
(CFA),
the only
school
in
Michigan
for
pregnant
and
parenting
teen
mothers
is open
and
better
than
ever!
CFA, the
school
rescued
earlier
this
summer
from
closing
by the
Blanche
Kelso
Bruce (BKB)
School
District
under
the
authorization
of Wayne
RESA, is
still
located
at 2750
Selden
in
Detroit
and
looking
for 200
more
students
to
enroll
this
fall.
The new
CFA
continues
the
longstanding
mission
of the
school’s
Founder
and
Principal
G.
Asenath
Andrews;
and
includes
a number
of new
enhancements
for the
students,
children
and
teachers.
As part
of the
BKB
School
District,
CFA has
the
option
of
adding
solar
energy,
permaculture,
placed-based
education,
tiny
homes,
greenhouse
design
and
construction,
competency-based
(versus
“seat
time”)
credit
accrual;
and
access
to a
fabrication
laboratory.
CFA also
offers
enhanced
infant,
toddler
and
pre-K
education;
and
healthy
and
nutritious
food and
snacks.
The
possibilities
are
endless
at CFA!
It is
not too
late for
teen
mothers
to
receive
a
quality
high
school
education,
graduate,
and go
to
college.
Teen
moms can
make up
lost
school
credits
and take
classes
at WCCCD
as well
as bring
their
children
to
school.
While
attending,
students
can look
forward
to the
great
possibility
of
graduating
on time
and the
assurance
that
they
will be
accepted
to
college
before
their
high
school
graduation.
Pre-natal
care, an
onsite
WIC
pediatric
clinic,
and OB
GYN
clinical
services
are
available
to all
students.
As teen
moms
receive
their
education
at CFA,
their
children
will do
the
same,
being
taught
skills
to help
them
outperform
other
children
when
entering
kindergarten.
