Ex-DPS Board President arraigned on sex charges

DETROIT (Tell Us Det) - Ex-Detroit School Board President Otis Mathis III appeared in court Tuesday on charges of sexual harassment stemming from meetings with the former DPS Superintendent.

After standing mute Tuesday in 36th District Court to charges of misconduct in office and obscene conduct, the judge entered a plea of not guilty on Mathis's behalf.

A $50,000 personal bond and ordered to have no contact with Superintendent Teresa Gueyser, who filed the complaint against him. He was also ordered to surrender his passport and not leave the state. Mathis also was ordered to have no contact with young children or school board members.

Neither Mathis nor his attorney would comment to reporters after the hearing. A preliminary examination is set for July 30.

The 55 year old Mathis resigned June 17 after Teresa Gueyser's charges.
