Shelby Township Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash Killing Two Children

DETROIT (Tell Us Det) - Today Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged David Leslie Lamberson, 62 of Shelby Township in connection with a fatal car crash that killed a 2-year old child and an 8-year-old child who were passengers in a car driven by their mother, Arlita Lee, 28 of Detroit.

On January 8, 2012 at 6:15 p.m. at Hoover and near Sturgis it is alleged that Lamberson was driving under the influence of alcohol, veering left of center, and travelling at a high rate of speed on a residential street when he crashed head on into the car of Ms. Lee killing her 2-year-old child. Ms. Lee sustained injuries but treated and released from the hospital shortly after the crash. Her 8-year-old child died several days afterward from injuries sustained in the crash. Lamberson was injured and immediately transported to a local hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

He has been charged with two counts of the following charges: Second Degree Murder, Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Death, and Reckless Driving Causing Death.

"The alleged facts in this case are that the driver was intoxicated, in a residential area speeding and driving outside of his lane when he crashed into a car killing two children young children. What a senseless tragedy," said Prosecutor Worthy.

The Defendant is not expected to be arraigned today or this weekend. You will be updated with information as it is available.
